Ah, the power of a logo. The Twitter “Bird” may be the modern-day version of the Nike “Swoosh.”
Twitter’s branding team seems to agree. As of 6/6/12, there’s no longer a need to associate “Twitter” as a word. The “Twitter Bird” has officially taken flight; a bold move from Twitter’s branding team.
It took Nike 25 years to establish a brand world-wide. Thus, the infamous “Swoosh” sans the name Nike. Admirably, they accomplished this feat with their creative hands and purely creative minds, without the initial launch-pad of the internet and modern-day technology.
Present day the drawing board has been replaced by PowerPoint presentations, collaborative software and fast moving social media. Twitter feels their “Bird” is strong enough to stand without the word “Twitter,” the bubbly typeface or the initial “T.” The Twitter Bird that appears is the new “Swoosh!” It took Nike 25 years. Twitter, only a few. Clearly, innovation and the capture of an audience progresses faster in today’s hyper paced world.
I like the tweaked version of the bird, I especially love when there is some sort of meaning behind the lines of a logo, even if it is just a series of three connected circles that create the shape.
